About Platysens
Platysens builds technology that talks to athletes while they train.
Our products use bone conduction audio to deliver real-time coaching feedback – pace, stroke rate, distance, navigation – without screens, without watches, without breaking concentration. Swimmers and rowers hear what they need to know, exactly when they need to know it.
The Name
The platypus is one of nature’s most unusual creatures – a mammal that swims, senses electrical fields, and defies easy categorisation. We liked that. Platysens technology does something competitors don’t: it gives athletes a voice in their ear while they’re in the water. That felt worth naming after something unique.
What is in our name?
“Platysens” means Platypus + sense.
Platypus is a semi-aquatic egg-laying mammal from Australia. In its bill, there are tiny electroreceptors and mechanoreceptors, which allows it to catch its prey under water, even when the water is murky.
Inspired by this magnificent animal, we aim to use different senses to help athletics monitoring their movements.
The Products
Marlin is a GPS swim meter that clips to your goggle strap. It tracks your swim and speaks to you via bone conduction – real-time pace, stroke rate, distance, and open water navigation. Works in pools and open water. Integrates with TrainingPeaks and Strava.
Marlin X is a real-time coaching system for rowers. It provides stroke rate, blade mechanics, body movement analysis, and crew synchronisation for up to eight rowers. Coaches see live telemetry on their phone. Rowers hear audio feedback as they row.
Where We Are Now
Platysens products are used by swimmers and rowers around the world – from weekend athletes to endurance competitors tackling multi-kilometre open water crossings. The Marlin won a CES Innovation Award in 2017 and has been featured by DC Rainmaker, TrainingPeaks, and swimming communities globally.
